Electricians in Portsmouth delivering friendly professional and quality electrical services at competitive rates to satisfied customers.
Trusted Local Electricians
Portsmouth Electricians 4U carry out rewires to properties in and around Portsmouth. This involves replacing old deteriorated, fire damaged equipment not meeting current regulations; e.g consumer unit, cables and fittings.
A standard rewire in a 3 bed house will take between a week or two depending on your electrical needs. If you are occupying the property, we take the utmost of care, using dust sheets, carpet protectors, overshoes and ensure a good vacuum at the end of each day. We will endeavour to maintain essential circuits to minimise disruption.
A typical rewire includes the installation of a new 17th Edition consumer unit, upgrading bonding conductors and meter tails, as well as the following circuits:
- Separate power circuits for upstairs/downstairs
- Separate lighting circuits for upstairs/downstairs
- Kitchen sockets
- Cooker circuit
- Shower circuit
- Boiler circuit
Consumer unit upgrades in Portsmouth
Since July 2008, the 17th Edition of the wiring regulations came into force that requires all electrical circuits connected in the consumer unit to be RCD protected. In 2015 it was required that all new consumer units were made of a non combustible material, i.e metal or be contained in a non combustible unit to prevent the spread of fire.
Replacing a board without RCD protection is highly recommended to make the property a safer place and provide protection against appliances if a fault was to occur. Other upgrades can be carried out at the same time to comply with current regulations, e.g. your main earth bonding for your gas and water supply and unearthed lighting circuits.
